Anybody notice how many references there are to Iowa in the TV show SUPERNATURAL?

After watching the supernatural dvd, I noticed that the show seems to make lots of references to towns in Iowa, does anybody know what that is about? Is one of the writers from there or something? 

A7: Yes, I noticed that, too. I think it's because Kansas is near these states, so it's sort of their home base, and the Road House was in Nebraska, I think. Plus, most states in the midwest are easily accessible to each other, so it only takes a few hours to drive everywhere. In addition, lowa is the ideal small-time, small-town state. It's so "pure America" that people make fun of it sometimes.
